  • The city of Vaughan is Canada’s fastest growing municipality, and has nearly doubled in size since 1991.

Toronto

Set on the north shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto was created on March 6, 1834, when the settlement of York was renamed Toronto with a population of 2.4 million, 5.5 million in the Greater Toronto Area.


Fortune Magazine has ranked Toronto first overall in its international survey of the best cities in which to live and work, calling it, among other things, the safest city in North America. The New York Times had the following to say about Toronto: "This is a city of immigrants without slums, without graffiti, and without gridlock, dynamic but seldom frenetic, a metropolis with clean air and healthy downtown neighbourhoods.


According to the United Nations, Toronto is the most ethnically diverse city in the world. A remarkable 41 percent of its population was born outside of Canada.
